Hello, I am a professor in Economics and in Management and Strategy at the University of Hong Kong. I am also Director of the Digital Economy Research Institute at the HKU Business School Shenzhen Campus, a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London, and a non-residential fellow of the 21 Century China Center at UC San Diego. Before joining HKU, I taught at the Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, until 2020. I received my Ph.D. in Economics from the London School of Economics in 2011. I was a visiting scholar at UChicago, Princeton, MIT, and the University of Stockholm.
My primary research focuses on media economics, in which I investigate both theoretically and empirically how the media affects policy making, public accountability, firm performance, and consumer behavior. Another stream of my research focuses on knowledge-based production, digital platforms, and AI-guided economic activities. I am also interested in studying the Chinese economy, particularly issues related to the labor market and public health. My work has appeared at top economics, management, and statistics journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economics and Statistics, Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Management Science, Organization Science, and the Journal of American Statistical Association.
